Driver (GS-3)


Principal Functions

    Under the general direction of Head, Support Services and in accordance with the OPCW Core Values of Integrity, Professionalism and Respect for Diversity/Gender Equality, the Driver performs the following duties;

     

    1. Ensures provision of reliable and safe driving services by:

      1. Driving office vehicles for the transport of OPCW, other high-ranking officials and visitors and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items;
      2. Meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport including visa and customs formalities arrangement when required and;
      3. Provision of clerical assistance to the Administration Unit for registry-related and administrative issues.

     

    1. Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.

      1. Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc;
      2. Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents. Ensures that the local traffic rules as well as the UN code of conduct are fully adhered to;
      3. Maintain records of official trips, mileage, fuel consumption oil changes, greasing etc;
      4. Schedules driver assignments via e-mails, telephone calls and verbal instruction and maintains monthly reports on transportation services provided;
      5. Liaises with designated staff member(s) for verification and payment of invoices for fuel, repairs and maintenance of vehicles;
      6. Assists as required with other Support Services tasks, including but not limited to photocopying and filing, inventory management, internal mail and supplies distribution and other clerical tasks.
      7. Performs other duties as required.

        1. Knowledge and Experience

          Education

          Essential

          High School Diploma or equivalent diploma of higher secondary education (High School Certificate in combination with significant relevant experience as a driver may be accepted in lieu of the High School Diploma).

          Required Certification

          Current driving licence for categories B through to E.


          Experience

          Essential

          1. At least three years of experience as a professional driver with a safe driving record;
          2. Extensive professional driving experience within The Hague and throughout Netherlands and to Belgium;
          3. Experience using larger passenger vehicles such as mini van, mini van plus trailer and a sixteen-person bus;
          4. Availability to undertake driving duties outside of normal official hours including weekends.

          Desirable

          Experience in airport drop-off and pick-up would be an asset.


          Skills and Abilities (key competencies):

          1. Ability to undertake minor vehicle repair;
          2. Ability to work harmoniously in an international environment;
          3. Tact, discretion and diplomacy;
          4. Availability to undertake driving duties outside of normal official hours including weekends;
          5. Computer literacy in particular the ability to use e-mail;
          6. Good interpersonal skills;
          7. Professional appearance and manner.

          Language Requirements

          Fluency in English is essential and a good working knowledge of one of the other official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is desirable.
